ROUTE:Indianapolis,IN to Richmond,IN DISTANCE:73 miles WINDS:Tailwinds!! :)
WEATHER:70s and sunny! TERRAIN:Small town after small town CLIMBING:1000'...easy!

Wednesday,July 14th. After a great rest day in Indianapolis, we were all ready to ride this morning and we awoke to great news. The forecast was for low temps, low humidity, lots of sunshine, and TAILWINDS! Woohoo! We had 'em with us all day, which made the 73 miles to Richmond fast and easy. I took off after breakfast with a large group, but the stop lights caused us to separate pretty quickly. I felt good and rode at a pretty quick pace by myself (18-19mph) all the way to the SAG at mile 38. After the SAG I rode with Dale (I should have known better!) and we picked up the pace to 21-23 mph. Today was cool because the towns were so close together that it felt as if we were almost always riding in civilization. All of the towns were quaint Mayberry type places with downtowns along Main Street. We rode through Philadelphia (nope, we're not in PA!), Charlottesville, Knightstown (where the movie Hoosiers was filmed...some of the guys went to the gym and bought t-shirts!), Dublin, Pennville, Centreville (Ken, Dale, and I stopped for monster ice cream!). We still saw cornfields and soybeans between towns, but it's obvious that we're beginning to ride in more populated areas now. We didn't make many stops on this day...when you have a great tailwind, you don't want to risk losing it! It was an absolutely perfect day for riding. I got in to the hotel at 12:30 and even had time for a quick nap! Woohoo! We're heading to Ryan's Steakhouse for dinner in a few minutes, so I'm going to cut this off for tonight. We have to cover 400 miles in the next four days, so we're hoping the tailwinds stick around. I hear it's WAY hot at home...don't be jealous that I'm cycling in the 70s! :) See you tomorrow!
