Thursday,July 22nd. Greetings from beautiful upstate New York! When most folks think of NY, they immediately get a visual of NYC. Upstate NY is nothing like that. It's surprisingly rural, with large farms lining the roads. Today's route was a memory jogger for me as it took me through towns that I was familiar with from my travels with the ex...Geneva, Waterloo, Seneca...all quaint small towns. We stopped for photo ops at Seneca Lake, and we also stopped for root beers (Yuk. I had a Coke!) at a Richardson's Root Beer Stand. The ride today was only supposed to have about 1600 feet of climbing, but I'm skeptical....seemed more like 3600 feet to me. My legs just didn't want to play! The day was fairly short, and several of us stopped off at noon for lunch at a little pub about 8 miles from the hotel. Most everyone is going on the dinner cruise tonight...we're assembling in the lobby at 4:30 to head out. Can you believe that Joyce and I never found a cheap place to buy sundresses??! Oh well. Guess I'll have to press my finest t-shirt and shorts for this affair! Bill was greeted at the hotel by his sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew, and mother, and it was nice to get a chance to meet them. I'm really looking forward to meeting all the riders' friends/family in New Hampshire. Won't be long now! Tomorrow we have 85 miles to somewhere else in NY...check back in!
