Well, today I believe I saw what the songwriter meant by the "purple mountains' majesty". The mountains surrounding the desert of Nevada looked purple in the distance, and it was a beautiful scene to ride in all day. We had a rally short day...only 56 miles...and I was in the hotel by 1pm. Battle Mountain is nicknamed the armpit of America...some journalist coined that...and they've taken advantage of it by having Old Spice deodorant sponsor some event. Now that's a clever marketing idea! The armpit is pretty accurate...there's nothing but a few stores, a pizza place, and a hotel. I don't know how people enjoy living way out here. No Walmarts or Targets anywhere! :) Nothing much happened on this day, except that Team Scenic (a group of fun guys that come in last everyday!) awarded Kathryn with the Chicken Award for winning $100 in a casino slot tournament the other night. Kathryn has to ride on Monday with a little yellow chicken taped to her helmet. I imagine that chicken will ride on every helmet before this trip is over! Tomorrow we ride 76 miles to Elko, NV. See you later!
